Liz and dick break up again after 10 years of  marriage and the Supreme Court says the Virginia Miltary academy must admit women. Happy birthday Pearl buck and golfer Babe Didrickson. 

1541 Francisco Pisaro the Spanish conqueror of the Incas is assassinated  in 1541.

1797 Charles Newbold patents 1st cast-iron plow. He can't sell it to
farmers, though, they fear effects of iron on soil!

1978 First dedicated oceanographic satellite, SEASAT 1, launched

1983 "Loving" soap opera premiers on TV

1993  President Clinton punishes Iraq for a failed   plot to kill  former  President George Bush in Kuwait. Twenty three Tomahawk missiles were fired at Iraqi intelligence headquarters. Here’s some background and of  course the story doesn’t end there.
