The first Food and drug law is inacted and the cast iron plow is patented. FDR establishes the first credit Union, the UN is chartered and the Supreme court says that VMI (virginia military institute) must admit women. In marriages, itís Liz again. And birthdays of Pearl S. Buck and Babe Didrikson.

1541 Francisco Pizarro the Spanish conqueror of The Incas  is assassinated in 1541.

1797 Charles Newbold patents the first cast-iron plow. He can't sell it to 
farmers, though, they fear effects of iron on soil!

1848 the first pure food law enacted in US.  (FDA) Drugs were added later. Hereís a history.

1870 1st section of  the   Boardwalk (NJ) Atlantic city  opens

1919 the first issue of NY Daily News published. The most widely circulated daily in the US today.

1934 FDR signs Federal Credit Union Act establishing credit unions

1945 UN Charter signed by 50 nations in SF. It all began in 1941.

1959 Queen Elizabeth & Pres Eisenhower open the St Lawrence Seaway

1963 Kennedy visits W Berlin "Ich bin ein Berliner" (I am a doughnut?)

1965 General Westmoreland was given authority to committ U.S forces in Vietnam. 

1970 Bernadette Devlin, Catholic activist and MP from Ulster, was arrested in Londonderry after conviction for her part in 1969 Bogside.

1974 Liz Taylor and Richard Burton break up after ten years of marriage. In October they remarry, only to divorce again the summer of 75. If you canít keep track there are 8 husbands.

1975 Sonny and Cherís divorce is made final. Four days later Cher married Gregg Allman of the Allman Brothers and Sonny becomes a Republican.

1975 two FBI agents are killed on the Pine Ridge Indian reservation at Wounded Knee in South Dakota. Two hundred FBI agents are flown in to conduct the largest manhunt (in domestic US history) for AIM (American Indian Movement) activist Leonard Peltier

1978 First dedicated oceanographic satellite, SEASAT 1, launched

1982 A Gilmore & P Kilmartin discovers asteroid #3521. Do you know what an asteroid is?

1983 "Loving" soap opera premiers on TV

1993 President Clinton punishes Iraq for a failed plot to kill former President George Bush in Kuwait. Twenty three Tomahawk missiles were fired at Iraqi intelligence headquarters. Hereís somebackground and of course the story doesnít end there.

1996 US supreme Court rules that the Virginia Military Institute must admit women.
