I Started!
12/1/2008 - Susan Terbay

I started!! - okay not my period - that's not even something I have had for years - no I started to live better today - to respect the body that encases my soul.

Usually when I get to the campus and go get a donut - treating myself to fat and sugar along with a butter rum cappaciono.  But today after my quiet time I prepared myself cooked oatmeal - not that packaged quick stuff - but the regular oatmeal that you cook.  I do love oatmeal and it tasted very good this morning along with my cup of coffee from home.

Like I stated in my other email - food isn't my problem - as much as exercise.   So tonight I hope to use my treadmill for something other than keeping packages off the floor.

I'm very determined - and one of the young women here at work - who has lost 20 pounds and is looking wonderful because of eating healthy and exercising is encouraging me when I told her my decision - so I've got WE supporting me and a young woman here.

I've started - who is joining me on this journey?!?!  Because by the end of the week I'm really going to need help to continue....

Actually I do have the oldies of the Monkey's on a CD that I love to listen to for my walking - which gets me 'movin' - so I'll just walk the old treadmill - if I remember where the plug is located under all the packages!!!

Cj...you will laugh at this...my favorite music to dance to is a Messianic CD of Israeli-type music. It starts out rather slow (good warm up), then it gets cranking...I LOVE it. See...I told you I've got Jewish roots somwhere down the line! Mazel Tov, everyone!!!

Michele - CJ will laugh and for me when it comes to you my dear website sister - nothing surprises me! I can even envision it! As a daughter of a German Baptist mother - I unfortunately wouldn't be dancing - however my Irish Catholic father - played in a band so that over-rides the not dancing!

Ok, Susan, I'm with you today. I can hardly lean over because my back is hurting so much. I went to the chiropractor a couple times last week and he fixed it but it's back again. So today I'm starting because you're starting. I will do some stretches and movements that otherwise would go undone. I have cleaning to do (our Thanksgiving dinner was yesterday) but I will not let that substitute as my exercise. I'm with you, sister. I will start today!

Okay J - now I'll have to take the stuff off the treadmill - so much for the excuse of it being bitterly cold outside and the need to curl up on the couch! I guess I'll do that after listening to the Monkey's and doing the treadmill for 20 mins. Then I'll get my tiger baum, heating pad and muscle relaxers, motrin and cup of tea!! I'm ready!! This will happen around 5pm tonight - listen for the winds hollowing!!

I'm right behind you on the treadmill Susan! My preference is Metallica, AC/DC and the like. The faster the music the faster I go, the louder it is the less pain I feel -- until later!

I'M ALIVE!! huff huff, I'm breathing, huff, puff - my hips and knees are upset with me but otherwise I actually feel great. I just finished so time will tell when I drag my body to bed and better yet - drag it out of bed. The Tiger Baum is within reach. I started out in 'training' mode - to get back into the swing of it and I just sang away while I did my thing. That also helps distract from pain and the increase of speed, etc. So it was really cool - hope there are no secret service tapes in my house - if so - agents are laughing!. Day one - mission accomplished!

I'm exhausted just contemplating all of the energy output (and input of oatmeal). I love exercise, I could watch it all day long. Seriously, I may move slowly, but I get things done and my daughter constantly lectures about "eating healthy". I have no recourse...but don't tell her about the Ben and Jerry's I have stashed for those times when it rains...

I won't tell about the Ben & Jerry's if you don't tell about my carmels I so love that are in my cupboard! The fact Mary you are moving and are here with all of us is a healthy kick for me and for everyone - hope we can give you a kick as well - well nothing violent just a healthy tap of caring!
