Condi Rice Campaigning for VP
4/7/2008 - Jackie Reed

It's got to be true, I just read it in the New York Post. I just don't see it happening, but it does give the GOP a chance to show it includes a big tent.  I can't wait to hear that they're considering a log cabin (gay) republican.  Why not you ask.
There's too many in that "large" GOP tent who won't vote for a woman, for an African American, For a Catholic, Morman etc... They need another youngish white guy (60 something) with a slightly receeding hair line, evangelical tendencies and a wife who will stand by his side when he gets caught with his hand under the bathroom stall.

Anyone else care to offer an opinion?

I think Condi is an inteligient woman. I was sorry to see her get mixed up trying to make Bush look good. I've noticed she has been quiet of late and thought she was distancing herself from all things GOP right now. I figured there was areason for that and it made sense when this rumor first surfaced. But I don't see it happening, either. The GOP needs someone mainstream to offset whatever misgivings the general populace will have with McCain. Having an African-American woman is too polarizing for the GOP.

Condi will tie McKain to this war......not to his benefit. Are you calling her a Log Cabin Replublican? Perhaps Lindsey Graham might fill the bill. What choices do we have?
4/7/2008 Joyce Norman from Birmingham AL wrote:
My comment is to echo what Suzanne said, "What choice at all do we have regarding who is McCain's running mate? None." That's one of the scary parts. No, I agree, Condi would not be the one to add strength to McCain's ticket and frankly, I don't believe she would accept the invite.

I believe LIeberman another war hawk will be his running mate - he sort of fits the description - youngish looking white guy - 60's - with receeding hairline! Besides he's constantly at McCain's side correcting him. Isn't that was a VP does? I don't think Condi would consider it - she I hope is much wiser than that.

I wonder if trying to include Condi, who is, conveniently, a person of color AND a female, would be the kiss of death for the Republican ticket. If so, I'm praying for it! I don't think conservatives would go for it. But it's politics, anything can happen, and we'll just have to wait and see.

Why wouldn't conservatives go for a female, black VP? That seems stereotypical and kinda narrow-minded. I think she would be a great addition (better than Lieberman) and she would give McCain balance just where he needs it. I'd be more inclined to vote for McCain if she were his VP candidate.

Conservatives being narrow minded. Who would ever think such a thing. Its a fact that Gays are an aberation of nature, Global warning is a myth as is Darwinism and the idea that Government can do anything right. Bush proved that with Katrina, Iraq etc...

I'm on board with exactly what Joy said. She's smart--too smart to get mixed up with John McCain. I see her as wonderfully electable in another campaign sometime. I also like to think Condi, at least in private, feels like I do about the Senator from Arizona: "McCain--I don't get it."
4/7/2008 J Peak from Plymouth MI wrote:
I think it's very narrow-minded to say all conservatives think like that, and saying it borders on bigotry. So I guess all liberals (from New York) are all democrats, believe ones sexual leaning is all based on biology, believe in global warming (and are doing something about it), etc.? Wow. That kind of thinking is what stalls this country time and again. You against me. Liberals against Conservatives. Democrat against Republican. Black against White. Men against women. Yep, keep thinking like that and we'll get nowhere.
4/7/2008 DB Metzger from NY wrote:
All conservatives? I was thinking primarily about all those white males early on running for president. Aside for Ron Paul they all traveled the straight and narrow road to evangelical pandering. Did you hear something I didn't? Although, I admit, being from New York I do remember how sophisticated Rudy looked in a dress. Not being from Utah or Massachusetts I can't say much about Mitt's magic underwear. So I guess you are correct, conservatives do sometimes show a wild and crazy side, aside from Politics. :)

Why through it all to condervatives and liberals...there are independents and progressives. I can never tell who through the first storne but someone seems inclined to. Where is the civilized discourse? Republicans as a matter of reality are under-respresented by minority people. I have been in those circles and they are not diverse. Perhaps that is ehy Gen Powell went away.

Conservatives are who they are or they wouldn't be conservatives and their beliefs fall under the line of beliefs that do not feed into liberals.. If you are a republican then you are more conservative in your views then a democrat. I don't view it as us against them - I see it as difference of opinion and view of life - either it fits your beliefs or it does not. For instance - McCain is pro-life and yet supports the death penalty. If you are pro-life - you don't pick and choose which life is worth keeping! He's a war hawk which speaks of another life issue. I vote my beliefs.

With all these responses I was inspired to follow up on whether Condie would or wouldn't run. I came across an interesting article which makes me think she won't be running. The end of last year there were rumours raised about her sexual orientation. The Sunday Times put some meat to the bones of the rumour which also was mentioned in the Biography written by Glenn Kessler. It goes back to her Stanford days where she shared a house with "a special friend". http://www.timesonline.co.uk/tol/news/world/us_and_americas/article2983771.ece

Susan, So if it (liberal or conservative) fits your beliefs, and in line with what you wrote about McCain/death penalty, am I to assume that you like none of the candidates views on "choice"? Since you are anti-war then, following your logic, you would not be happy with the democratic platform of pro-choice. It's just the flip of McCain's platform. It looks like you don't have a democratic candidate to vote for, then.

Jackie, Now you're using the Times online to get your info? You must have missed the part where their information came from the Enquirer, and we know how credible THAT source is. It amazes me where people will stoop in their quest to dishonor someone they know other people admire. And yet they try to use information that if it were true, wouldn't bother THEM a bit. Mudslinging for the sake of mudslinging.
4/10/2008 Jackie Reed from new york city ny wrote:
Shhh, just between you and me it was more the Glenn Kessler research in his Condi bio that carried weight for me. It's a matter of observation, not mudslinging to raise the issue of whether skeltons in her closet would prompt her to seriously run for higher office in this era of Gotcha journalism. What's difficult to figure out is whether she has had someone throw this up as a trial balloon (Her people say she isn't campaigning for vp) or someone else might be attempting to turn the rumor into a story covered by the mainstream.
4/10/2008 J Peak from Plymouth MI wrote:
I know this goes against most of what you all think, but this conservative would vote for Condi in a heartbeat, gay or not. So maybe I'm not conservative because we all know that all conservatives hate gays, so I'm not sure what that makes me. Anyway, would she be mroe apt to have your vote then if yoiu knew she were gay.......thus supposedly making her more in line with your values, etc.?
4/11/2008 Jackie Reed from new york city ny wrote:
Reasons why I wouldn't vote for Condi. 1. If she is gay she's a hypocrite for remaining in a party (with a few exception) that exploits her very existance. 2) Isn't 8 years of the Bush era enough? Deficits not big enough, not enough foreclosures, not enough dead soldiers? 3. If she had real integrity she would have left with Colin Powell when she realized how she was suckered into Iraq and a go it alone, beligerent foreign Policy thatCheney, and Rumsfeld carried through. Instead she was Paid off by taking Powell's job. Opportunism? 4. I don't tend to vote on the basis of single issues.
4/12/2008 J Peak from Plymouth MI wrote:
Maybe that'd be the very reason to vote for her (#3). She could have easily cut and run, but she may have felt compelled to stay to continue to right some wrongs. That takes more guts.
4/12/2008 Jackie Reed from new york city ny wrote:
You keep defending her this way and people are going to begin to think you and Condi have something going on.:)

Sounds to me as if Jackie is really the one who is obsessed, I just can't figure out with what.....I am not sure I can take a race that includes all of these special interest groups. If I vote against one, what will I be guilty of?

I'm not obsessed, just focused like a lazer beam. If you want to know on what you'll have to create a therapy blog. Mental Health is serious buzziness. :)

The recent senator from NY who got "caught" and whose wife stood by his side is a Democrat. Same goes for Bill and Hillary. Adulterous men exist in all political parties. Do some research on President Kennedy if you need more proof. My husband and I are Republicans who would vote for a woman, a gay, an African American, a Mormon, and so on if they were qualified to be President. However, we don't believe any of the current leading candidates in either major party are qualified. At this point, we like or dislike them all equally. We hope to have better options in another four years.

I have just become aware of womenetcetera.com. I have loved reading your comments on this particular blog. As for my opinion? Yuk to Condi and anyone associated with this current administration that has brought us a worthless and expensive war, ruined the government and our reputation around the world, destroyed the economy, you name it!

Well Condi is thrilled about Barack and all is well in the world, I hope.
