Paul Newman dies
9/27/2008 - Bev Sykes
I just heard that Newman had passed away. Very, very sad. He seems to have been a very nice man and his work for charity has been exemplary. A great loss.

The blue eyes that I will remeber forever. Here was a star in the truest sense.....handsome and faithful to a woman. He will be missed....it is the end of an era. And, I don't like this new one so good.

If I could describe my 'dream man' it was Paul Newman - just heard the news myself. Not only was he pleasant to watch - his attitude about life was pleasant to witness. There's a bit of empty feeling for me.

I'm with you Suzanne. He was a member of a great era of actors and actresses -- they don't seem to make them the way they used to.

For those of you who get the sundance channel keep an eye out for the Iconoclast series program which included one episode with Newman and Redford. I'm sure it will be re-aired shortly. From what I remember they had been looking for another script where they could work together again. Time ran out. RIP

My daughter went to college with Nell Newman and I recall one event where the students were performing. Of course, Paul was in attendance - he would not miss seeing his daughter singing. Yet he came in discretly, sat in the balcony - not to be "apart or above" the other parents. But to not take the spotlight from the students. Quite a human being.

Many years ago I was stuck at the Houston airport, and went into a book shop there. I am a sci-fi nut and I looked up into Paul Newman's smiling blue eyes as I was holding a rather graphic (for the time) book. He had just finished making a movie there, and we struck up a conversation that I will remember to this day. I walked away thinking what a nice, normal person he was...God bless, Paul Newman, we'll miss you.
